Sailing World Cup - Weymouth and Portland Sailing Academy

A group of West Base year 2 pupils went on a local trip this morning to the National Sailing Academy in Weymouth. We have noticed over the past couple of weeks there are some people from different countries visiting Portland - their car number plates are different and we have heard lots of different languages in the local shops.

We wanted to find out more!

This week there is a World Cup sailing event going on at the 2012 Olympic Sailing venue. It was exciting to think that the last time some of these sailors were on Portland they were using our school as the Olympic Village - apparently there were no tables and chairs, the bases were full of Gym equipment and table tennis tables!

We wanted to have a look at some of the boats so we went for a trip to see what was happening as the sailors prepared to launch for a long day on the water. 

It was good fun spotting the different county flags and trying to work out what the country codes mean.
